Pistons and rings...
May 11, 2006. The cylinders have
been honed and hot tanked along with the head. They look
great. After some patient struggling with one of the pistons that
had some stuck rings, I'm ready to move on. That is until I notice a
dent in one of the pistons. (the one that had the stuck rings)
General advice is that I need new
pistons. Great... Now I had to look at the cylinders and
head. Things aren't looking so good now. I may have wasted $
on rings, honing and cleanup of this stuff. :(
Here are the head and cylinders.
You can see an obvious difference in each side.
I didn't take pics of the good side of
the head, but It is very different from the picture below. The other
side is nice and smooth.
After some discussion with a
mechanic friend, the consensus is that I will get new pistons and go with
the rest of the parts and lap the valves.
Now after a trip to the bike
shop and some discussion, the cylinders need to be bored because they are
at the outer limit of stock. Of course I already bought stock rings
and painted them.
