After jerking around with
some different polishing methods, (wasting time) I took off the jug and
studs, along with the cam chain wheel thing. I broke one of the tabs
off the oil filer cap and still can't get the damn thing off. Plus,
I grabbed a 6m bolt of the non-hardened variety at the hardware store and
it's flexing around like mad. Also noticed some serious scarring
from the cam chain on the inside of the head and a bit on the case.
Guess nobody ever adjusted the tension. Oh, and the oil filer cap;
it was pristine before I started jacking with it. The engine has a
little over 10k on it and I'm thinking no one has ever done anything to
it. It looks great except for those cam chain marks.
I've now found out that
the oil filter cap pulls off, not unscrews. (thanks Ellis) So now
I've broken both of the tabs off of it. :(
In the mean time of
thinking about this oil filter cap, I've decided to try and accurately
date the bike. I pulled the wiring harness out of the frame and
found it dated 1965 with part number 32100-225-000 on
it. I then got this information via another VJMC
member:
The CA160 was released in May 1966, and probably sold to 1969. Its
product-code is 225. The wire harness might have the part number 32100-225-000 stamped on it, if so, it is probably the original one.
With the mid number -225- the harness is different from the C/CA92/95's.
The production started with frame number CA160-1000001, and engine number CA160-1000001. Honda very often started the production of parts long
before they released a new model, and this was not a complete new one, but sort of an upgrade from the C/CA92/95's. The engine is
completely different, but most of the body/wheel-parts are the same.

What have we
learned? The CA160 is probably a 1966 model. Unless I learn
otherwise, that is the year I will register it as.
Good news, super cool guy
Scott loaned me a parts catalog book and I got my needed
socket finally to get the oil filter off, so work will start again
soon.
